Beautiful Dog Walks When Picking Pumpkins, Brecon
Give your pooch a stretch of the legs on or off the lead, with breathtaking views to boot after you've been picking pumpkins, by Brecon.
These walks that we've chosen are 3 of our favourites, but are quite easy to get to (some walks definitely aren't!) and are within a 15 minute drive.
Dog Walk 1: Yr Allt Filo, Llanfilo
By far the closest dog walk when picking pumpkins at Copper & Holly, and is the one that we take the dogs to the most. Just a 5 minute drive, but on probably one of the worst roads in the area. If you're an unconfident driver, or it is icy/frosty or snowy, it's a good idea to give this one a miss. This walk takes place on the hill directly opposite the farm that is covered in woodland. You can see it when picking pumpkins from our pumpkin patch.
How to get there:
turn left on the main road from Pontybat Farm. At the crossroads, turn right. Follow the road right up to the top of the hill, and when you get to the hedge in front of you, follow the road round right. Drive through the village, keeping an eye out for the church. When you see the church take the immediate right after it, and follow the road (carefully) up the hill. You've arrived when you cross over the cattle grid. We usually park just off the road at a spot at the top of the brow.
Dog Walk 2: Brechfa Pool, Brechfa
If your dog is likely to chase, this walk is best by keeping them on the lead. With the walk located on common ground, there's usually sheep out grazing, and the pond when full, is teeming with wildlife. You can walk up the slight hill, and turn left off the road which will being you up on Llangoed Common, an area of hundreds of acres to walk. Great for blowing out the cobwebs after picking pumpkins, by Brecon.
How to get there:
turn left on the main road when leaving Pontybat Farm. At the crossroads, turn left again. Follow the road for about a mile and a half, and when you've gone round the 90 degree bend in the road with a white farm complex on the right (named Ponde corner) take the next junction left. If you get as far as Llyswen, you've missed the road. Follow the road up the hill until you cross the cattle grid and get to the top. We park opposite the pond next to the phone box.
Dog Walk 3: Brynich Lock, Brecon & Monmouth Canal, Groesffordd
Heading back into Brecon, this walk can make a day of picking pumpkins near Brecon. The walk starts just off the main road, and you can choose whether to walk back towards Brecon (about 2 miles) or if you choose to walk towards Talybont On Usk (about 5 miles). Both places have pubs that are dog friendly for you to enjoy a spot of lunch. Park like the locals on the verge of the road just on the junction going back out to the A40 (don't worry, it's road-safe).
How to get there:
turn right on the main road when leaving Pontybat Farm. Follow the A470, going along the road until you get to the first roundabout (about 5 miles). Take the first exit off the roundabout, and take the next turning off to the right (about 500 yards). When you get to the junction, turn left, and park on the verge just past underneath the bridge. Walk from your vehicle to the small stone bridge and the cottage, and take the right side to walk towards Talybont, and the right side to walk towards Brecon.
Now, hopefully you won't get lost!
