What do others think of our pick your own pumpkin patch?

You know what it's like.  You're reading the website and they claim to be the best.  You turn up (or buy) and are left bitterly disappointed :-(

We don't want to make claims and have you disappointed.  So who better to give their opinion than customers who've visited us last year.

"We visited yesterday for the pyo pumpkin patch and it was absolutely beautiful decorated inside the barn and so much fun in the field. Such a lovely friendly family run business aswel.

If it's raining, will I still enjoy the pick your own pumpkins experience?

During 2022, we moved our autumn shop and cafe into the big agricultural barn.  Those that visited loved it, and so this year we've made it even better.  Even if it's shocking weather, you can still visit the shop, have a pumpkin spice latte, and pick your own pumpkins all in the dry.

We've got our car parking on hardcore, so even if you get really wet when picking your own pumpkins in the pumpkin patch (and you don't have to, as there's plenty under cover in the dry!), your car will get out cleanly and easily :-)

I'd like my group to come and pick our own pumpkins

We regularly have groups come to visit our pumpkin patch of varying ages, including schools and social groups, such as YFC.  Check out our article here for more details on what we offer groups outside of our opening hours, and details on how to book.

Are dogs allowed on your pumpkin patch?

We are a dog friendly site, but we do have a few simple rules for you all to follow, to keep our pumpkin patch clean, and to keep our wildlife and our pet animals safe.  We've also got a list of dog friendly eating establishments locally, as well as our favourite dog walks for you.  Check out the articles below.

Do you have any events going on on the pumpkin patch in 2024?

We'll be planning these during 2024, and will update this page once dates and details have been firmed up.

What facilities are there on your pick your own pumpkins farm?

We are primarily a pumpkin patch, with a shop featuring a collection of lovely autumn decorations, and a small cafe.  There's a free car park, and portaloo toilets.

There's a tap in the pumpkin field, so if you need to wash pumpkins or welly boots, you can do that before jumping in your nicely cleaned car.

We have Dodger the sheep and our turkey, Jeremy (he's not Christmas lunch!) that you can say hello to, and you may well see our resident mouse-hunters Honey & Spike prowling around the yard or field.    Although we have our own dogs, these are rarely in the shop.

What's the scare factor like on the pick your own pumpkins patch?

We don't have any Halloween focused displays, or scary walks.

I truly believe that if I'm unable to offer a different experience to what is already available, then I don't offer that event until I can offer you something different.  There's no point in trotting out the same old-same old, and being the same as everybody else out there.

So for now, we focus on the beauty of Autumn, and allow other sites to attempt the scare factor.

Which side of Brecon is the pick your own pumpkins patch?

Our address is Pontybat Farm, Llanfilo, Brecon, Powys, LD3 0PA...

BUT...

AppleSat/SatNav does not send you directly to our farm.  Instead it takes you about 3/4 mile down the road, as about 6 of us share the same postcode, and we're all spread out over a mile or so!

If you use it, the What3Words to get to our driveway is

punk.origin.hound

Otherwise, directions are below, depending on which road you're coming from.

Visiting from Brecon -

travel out on the A470 towards Builth Wells.  About 4 miles out of Brecon you'll bypass the village of Felinfach, with the deep red pub (The Griffin) on your left hand side.  Once passed the village junction, we're the next farmhouse on the left, about a mile on.  Slow down just off the corner once you've seen the chimney pots, as our driveway is just past the stone building right on the side of the road.  If you get as far as the crossroads, you've gone too far.

Visiting from Builth Wells -

travel out on the A470 towards Brecon.  About 10 miles out of Builth, you'll enter the small village of Llyswen.  About 3/4 of the way through the village, once you get to the Griffin Inn, there's a junction with a turning to your right.  Take this turning by the pub, this is the continuation of the A470.  Carry on this road until you hit a crossroads junction (about 4 miles on), and turn right at the crossroads.  Take care on this junction, the cars travelling from the left are usually quicker than they look.  Once off the crossroads, we're the first turning off to the right, about 400 yards after the crossroads.

Visiting from Crickhowell -

travel out from Crickhowell on the A40 towards Brecon.  Before getting to Glanusk estate, and by the Nant Y Ffin cider mill, take the right hand turn to Talgarth.  Travel through Tretower, Cwmdu and Pengenffordd and at the very bottom of the hill leading into Talgarth, at the roundabout take the seond exit off to bypass the town.  Follow the road round, past the Castle Inn pub, past Riverside caravan site, and when you get to the next roundabout by Bronllys, take the first exit off.  At the next roundabout, take the first exit off.  Head out along the long straight, and just after the crossroads, look to take the first right turning off, at the white stone barn on the side of the road.

Visiting from Hay on Wye -

travel out from Hay on Wye on the A438 towards Brecon.  Go through Glasbury, Three Cocks and when you get to the roundabout by Bronllys, take the second exit off as though going to Brecon.  At the next roundabout, take the first exit following signs to Brecon. Head out along the long straight, and just after the crossroads, look to take the first right turning off, at the white stone barn on the side of the road.

Do you do anything different the rest of the year?

Picture of land rover decoration showing the Christmas barn in the background

Well, we do happen to have a very lovely Christmas Barn that opens (just after we close the pumpkin patch) for 2023 on 17 November, and closes just before Christmas.  Check out the details of that here.

But for now for the rest of the year ;-) it's just Autumn and Christmas that we focus on.
