Simple Gifts to Take to a Summer Gathering

Picture of a table ready for a Summer gathering under the trees in the garden

There's something special about summer gatherings: a table under the trees; a garden alive with conversation; the golden hour stretching just a little longer.  Whether it's a picnic, a barbecue, or an impromptu G&T in a neighbour's garden, it's always lovely to bring a small token of thanks.  Not because it's expected, but because it brings joy.

Some fudge is an excellent choice for a hostess gift, shown here laid out on greaseproof paper and on a wooden board

At Copper & Holly, we believe that gifts don't need to be grand or expensive.  In fact, it's often the simplest ones: the beautifully wrapped; the carefully chosen, that speaks loudest of thoughtfulness.

Here are a few effortless, heartwarming gift ideas for your next summer gathering:

A Jar of Something Homemade

A jar of honey (or similar) makes a wonderful small gift. Here a jar of honey is accompanied by a wooden spoon

Homemade jam, elderflower cordial, lemon curd, or infused honey.  Tied with twine and a handwritten label.  It's a sweet little indulgence that brings sunshine to breakfast every day.

Tip: Add a linen napkin or unusual spoon for a special touch.

A Posy From the Garden

Fresh herbs, lavender, daisies.  Whatever's growing happily in your garden.  Wrapped in brown paper with a little ribbon, it's simple and soul soothing.

A Little Something for the Table

A beeswax candle, a sprig wreath to sit a candle in for the summer, or a small hand-poured tea light set.  Just enough to add glow to the evening.

A Box of Homemade Treats

Make some of your speciality, wrapped in parchment, tied with ribbon and popped in a tin.  It makes the perfect nibble to go with after dinner conversation.

If needing a gift for a hostess, and they have dogs, take a bag of dog treats as shown in the picture (scattered over the table ready to be eaten!)

A Treat for the Dog

If your host is a dog-owner, why not take a home made dog biscuit or a little treat bag for their four legged friend.  It shows thought beyond the unexpected, and will always spark joy.

A Thoughtful Book or Magazine

Perhaps something you've read recently and loved.  Add a small note inside the cover with your favourite part, or tuck in a homemade bookmark.  A good read is always a welcome pause after a good gathering has been had.

Include a Note From the Heart

Pair any of the above with a seasonal card or a simple handwritten note.  A message that says 'thank you for gathering us' or 'your company is always perfect' is a gift in itself.

And Simply....Your Time

A helping hand in the kitchen, arriving early to light the candles, staying behind to tidy glasses or just holding the baby whilst someone eats with two hands.  These are the gestures that often mean the most.  A thoughtful heart is the most treasured gift of all.

Gifting doesn't have to be expensive or complicated.  A simple gesture thoughtfully presented, makes a lasting impression and brings a little more beauty into the season.  It's not about formality, but about connection.  And what better time than summer to share those warm, gentle moments?
